Without sounding monotonous or repetitive we have to say that last week too was a poor show at the box office. We had Karan Johar’s Kurbaan which initially showed a lot of promises. Despite Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor carrying their off screen chemistry on screen, the film failed to lure the masses. It came as a surprise because this was the first ever Karan Johar movie to crash at the box office.
Maybe Kabir Khan’s New York was too fresh on the mind of the audiences and hence the film did not interest the public. There were too many comparisons made between the both. Unfortunately, it was a set back for Vivek Oberoi’s tremendous performance. One could almost say that it was a winning comeback after Saathiya, as far as his performance was concerned.
This week we have Priyadarshan’s comic fare De Dana Dan. After the success of Hera Pheri the trio of Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar and Suneil Shetty in the lead is back to entertain the audience with their comic antics.
The film apparently has 24 characters to keep the audiences busy. Hera Pheri incidentally was a blockbuster hit. This is once again a film from Priyadarshan, who has been known to have given comedy blockbusters. Hope De Dana Dan will bounce at the box office and not be a disappointment as other films which have not done far too well at the box office.
Nevertheless, Priyadarshan has played safe at the box office by considering this date as there is no other movie releasing this week. The audience is curious to see the Hera Pheri combination setting fire at the box office too as they have not got a good fare.
Looking at the reports one can gauge that despite producers spending a lot of marketing and making the promos look interesting to lure the audiences they are proving to be failures at the box office. All one can say at this point of time is that producers should now start concentrating on good screenplays and scripts than cooking up marketing strategies.
